MATERIALDISTRICT TAKES DUBAI

We are all aware of future themes, they range from sustainability, circularity, saving energy and healthy environments to smart solutions and conceptual interiors (to name but a few!).

One question that the professionals responsible for putting these themes into action must answer is: which materials will be vital for these themes to thrive?

MaterialDistrict, the world’s leading network in the field of innovative materials, has selected 100 materials to exhibit at the SURFACE Design Middle East exhibition this September in Dubai under the theme “My Modern Materials.” This will include carpet made of palm leaves, tiles made of oyster shells, engineered wood, cork textile and bamboo composites.

Michel Oud, Operations Manager, Material District

“We searched high and low for a cutting edge feature for SURFACE Design Middle East, because we know how important it is to offer innovative & inspiring content for architects and designers.

The MaterialDistrict Expo which takes place annually in Rotterdam has been a key meeting point for the last 13 years, for architects and designers looking to discover the latest trends & innovations in surface materials. We’re absolutely delighted with the scope of this curated project that will see 100 samples of responsive, smart, sustainable and unique materials that are shaping the future of the surface design industry.” said Samantha Kane-Macdonald, Event Director for SURFACE Design Middle East.

MaterialDistrict will also be showcasing new resources produced from items once termed “waste” such as materials made of coffee grounds and acoustic felt made of recycled denim.

You can also expect to see digital solutions like 3D printed materials, smart interactive materials and healthy bio-based material sources.

All materials have been selected exclusively for interiors and design related professionals and have functional properties as well as aesthetic ones. All visitors are invited to touch, feel and experience the materials that matter in every sense.

Michel Oud, Operations Manager at Material District said “We look forward the most to introducing visitors of SURFACE Design Middle East to the newest and most innovative materials in our collection and inspire them to design for a better tomorrow.”

SURFACE Design Middle East will be part of the first Middle East Design & Hospitality Week taking place from 17 – 19 September 2019 at Dubai World Trade Centre. 7 of the region’s largest and most influential design and hospitality exhibitions will be coming together across 3 days to create the largest trade, networking, learning and awe-inspiring festival of all things design and hospitality the region has ever seen.
